Have you ever seen a Great Blue Heron take flight from a salt marsh from your dining room windows at sunset?

This is Cape Cod at its best, and there is no better place to enjoy the Cape than at the Barley Neck Inn in East Orleans.

Across the street is Meeting House Road, a favorite of boaters, fisherman and seals that frequent these waters during the cooler months. Down the road is Nauset Beach, the Cape's most beloved stretch of sand and surf, an unbroken eleven mile expanse of pure oceanfront beauty.

This is the setting that inspired Thoureau to write, "A man may stand there and out all America behind him."

This is the setting that inspired us to become innkeepers.

And, this is the setting you will enjoy as a guest of our inn, whether relaxing by an old country fireplace, splashing in the ocean, golfing, fishing, biking or browsing for art and antiques.

Come and take a look around. Get sand in your shoes, skip a rock over water, or walk the beach and gaze out over the Atlantic Ocean's bountiful waters, source of our fresh fish and lobsters.

It is this location that helped shape The Barley Neck's long and storied history, as a farmhouse in 1857 and then as Captain Joseph D. Taylor's home. Captain Taylor was the owner of the clipper ship. The Red Jacket, world-renowned as holder of the trans-Atlantic record for more than thirty years.

This is what it's all about - history, nature and architecture from a time when function and style went hand-in-hand to create something that lasted. It all comes together at the fork between Beach and Barley Neck Roads, with Joe's Beach Road Bar & Grille and its promise of "Good food, large drinks and big fun," and a staff that caters to your particular needs, from sending off that business fax to arranging for a fishing tour in an off-road vehicle.

Welcome, and enjoy.
